Tommorowland Returns Bigger and Better Than Ever For 2012 with AVICII

ID&T's Belgium's legendary Tomorrowland. Universally and unequivocally acclaimed as one of THE biggest success stories of 2011, and dubbed by many as "the 21st Century's answer to Woodstock", the multi-award winning super festival RETURNS on the 27th of July 2012 for it's 8th edition of fantastical, show-stopping, electronic dance music cream!

Back one more to it's fairy-tale home -- the breathtaking De Schorre National Park in Belgium -- for another 3 day bonanza of unparalleled world-class talent and out-of-this-world production, the undisputed goliath of the international festival circuit is gearing up for what will be, without question, the most talked about event of this year's season. If you think you've experienced festivals as they should be, but have yet to sample the delights of Tomorrowland, look no further.

And we've got some extra-special news to sweeten the deal. Announced today -- the Swedish superstar LEGEND that is AVICII! Nearing the end of his monumental $1 million House for Hunger charity tour, Avicii now has his sights firmly set on the summer festival circuit. First on his list? Tomorrowland of course! After a truly historic headline set on the Saturday main stage last year, he just couldn't resist returning to the greatest party on the planet!

As with every new edition, brand new stage designs and creative site concepts are well underway, and the blueprints are RIDICULOUS... Coupled with a drip-fed line-up already including legends such as David Guetta, Calvin Harris, Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox, Alesso, Jamie Jones, John Digweed and of course Avicii, just one thing is certain - 2012's installment is set to outdo last year's in every conceivable way. For the 15 Million viewers (and counting) that witnessed the 2011 official aftermovie - you'll have already made your minds up that Tomorrowland 2012 is a dead cert.

Just like last year's event -- which welcomed visitors from over 50 countries worldwide -- 2012 will see 180,000 revelers descend upon Tomorrowland for 3 days, to partake in the most incredible sensory festival experience on the planet. Unfortunately, and as was also the case in 2011, there will be hundreds of thousands that miss out. For those of you for whom this simply isn't an option, there are a couple of very important dates to keep in the diary...

*February 1st 2012*
Ticket prices and info on how to buy tickets is released.

*April 7th 2012*
Tickets go ON SALE.

In recent years, Tomorrowland festival tickets have sold out in a matter of days; this year will be no exception. Moreover, due to the phenomenal success and feedback from last year's event, and considering just how many people viewed the movie, a sell out in minutes is sue fire guaranteed. Make sure you keep your eyes and ears peeled on the above dates to avoid disappointment!

Hardwell - Spaceman (Original Mix)

MTV has just put Hardwell down as an EDM rookie to watch in 2012, but as even the broken DJ Mag top 100 poll placed him at #24, the classification of Hardwell as a rookie is laughable. Hardwell exploded into public consciousness in early 2011, sharing producer credits with Tiesto on one of the biggest tracks of 2011 in Zero 76.

It's looking like he's primed to make another fantastic start to the year with his newest release, Spaceman, from his own Revealed Recordings. The buttery synths take an abrupt dive into an explosive hook with enough power to launch you into lower orbit. When I saw Hardwell last month at Ten Nightclub in Newport Beach, Spaceman induced girls to clamber onto guys shoulders. When the buzzing drop hit, it induced the girls to flash him while raging balls. The look of joyousness on the 24 year old's face was absolutely classic. Here's hoping this song becomes one of the anthems of year like it deserves to be.

Announcing a new remix contest platform, Beatport Play

In the past two years, Beatport has held more than 50 remix contests, letting contestants work their magic on the music of artists like Depeche Mode, Deadmau5, and Martin Solveig. We’ve received over 10,000 entries, and we’ve helped break the careers of numerous producers—just consider Zedd, a two-time Beatport remix contest winner who went on to collaborate with Skrillex, Lady Gaga, The Black Eyed Peas, and P. Diddy; signing tracks to labels like mau5trap, Dim Mak and OWSLA, Zedd has landed five tracks in the Beatport Top 10—not bad at all, considering that he had never released anything before winning his first remix contest.

Now, Beatport raises the stakes for everyone with the launch of Beatport Play, a next-generation platform designed to create even more opportunities for DJs and producers to get their music heard.
Starting today, five simultaneous contests are kicking off at play.beatport.com:

Here's links to get you started:
That’s not all: for the first time, Beatport, in partnership with sponsors, will offer the remix parts for free. Launch sponsors include Pioneer, Ableton, Novation, Odyssey, and iZotope. In addition to having their winning remix released commercially, winners will receive prize packages including audio production gear and software.

Head over to play.beatport.com now to check out the contests and hook yourself up with the parts; then get cracking! The submission window for most of the contests closes in about two weeks. If you’ve ever wanted to play with music, now’s your chance. Who knows—you might just make a career out of it.

Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl - In My Mind (Axwell Mix) + Cosmic Opera (Video)

Death By Electro Exclusive Download

Axtone records explodes into 2012 with a record that’s already being billed by many as a contender for tune of year, big words so early in the year but who are we to argue?

A standout track in Axwell’s sets since the back end of 2011, the buzz on this release went supernova post the Swedish House Mafia’s historic event at Madison Square Garden where ‘In my Mind’ in many peoples eyes (and ears) stole the show as the biggest record of the night.

For the exclusive Beatport release 30th January, Axwell’s mix will take centre stage as the sole version on the package with the Original to be made available at a later date.
Check out the interview with Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl: http://bit.ly/yRcW2V

ALSO,

Axwell will be headlining and curating the musical talent for Cosmic Opera, a dance event series taking place at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom beginning February 24th. Like an opera, it will take place in "acts" in the form of three monthly, six-hour-long events that will integrate the high-tech 3D mapping techniques used by Skrillex and Deadmau5 on their tours. Baroque-era performers, along with dancers and acrobats, will be placed throughout the room to create a 360-degree spectacle that pays homage to the venue's history.
Axwell has been working on the events with Cosmic Opera creator Justin Cohen, former COO of entrepreneurial conference Summit Series. "It is a revolutionary time for dance music," he tells Rolling Stone. "To go with it, we needed to establish a new type of event." Axwell will be responsible for filling the musical bill at each of the three events. In a nod to Hammerstein's theater roots, Axwell will also play the role of conductor, not only manning the turntables but leading accompanying opera singers. Watch the trailer for the event below.

Congorock at the Yost Theater [Review]

I’ve been coming to the Yost Theater since their first EDM show this past summer, an eardrum-assaulting performance by Feed Me and it quickly joined the ranks of my favorite Southern California venues.

I had heard about some upgrades put in for their NYE Benny Benassi show, and I am happy to report Yost has really stepped up their production values game. From the bass thumping out from below the dance floor to the upgraded DJ booth to the lasers painting an neon kaleidoscope through the air and on the walls and ceilings, and of course the brand spanking new 8’ x 16’ LED wall behind the DJ booth, every little aspect made the expanded main floor pulsate with dance hungry youth.

The opening DJs played a body-moving if predictable mix of songs, but the energy intensified tenfold when Congorock took the stage to the angry riffs of Dada Life’s Kick Out The Epic Motherfucker. From there he moved through a whirlwind of tunes, the horns in Deniz Koyu’s Tung! proving that it still has legs into the new year after being one of the biggest summer anthems of 2011 and dropping the dance floor off a cliff with the dirty, dirty drops in his own Ivory and Sirius.

Luckner - Electrify the System EP

Yesterday was a fulfilling day for Swiss producer Alexander Von Luckner as he released his first EP on beatport, Electrify the System. I came across Luckner on Soundcloud about a month ago, and was impressed with his original sounds. Luckner, like many great electro house producers, puts emphasis on melody and progression, while adding some hard hitting electro drops. Alexander was first inspired by David Guetta's track "Love is Gone" at the age of 16, and has been producing ever since. He tells me that some of his influences today are Porter Robinson, Wolfgang Gartner, Felguk and Dirtyloud, and it clearly comes out in his tracks. Make sure to check out Luckner on Soundcloud, and do yourself a favor by buying his EP on Beatport, you won't regret it!

Bloody Beetroots DJ Set ft. Tommy Lee

The Bloody Beetroots have recently completed a tour throughout their homeland of Italy. A tour that featured the likes of sir Tommy Lee. They've made a video recap that captures a bit of the absolute chaos that Bob Rifo brings with his high-energy performances. & We love this. The BB's murder every set I've seen them throw down, I can only hope that they come back to the states soon!

Tiesto Live Online, 1045 PST TONIGHT

HP and Intel are hosting the first-ever live stream of a concert on Twitter from the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show.

The concert will kick off the launch of a new 10-episode series on YouTube called “In the Booth” — a behind-the-scenes look at TiĂ«sto’s life and his impact on the electronic dance movement. The private event at the nightclub XS at Encore in Las Vegas will stream live from HP and Intel’s newly enhanced Twitter brand pages.

TiĂ«sto will play a 90-minute set on Wednesday, January 11 starting at 10:00 p.m. PT. It will then play on a loop on HP and Intel’s Twitter page for the following 48 hours.

(via mashable.com)

I love the increasingly popular trend to broadcast electronic events live on the internet. Coachella broadcast a large number of their acts last year via youtube (although sadly nothing from the Sahara tent), Deadmau5 streamed his 4D event from the UK a few months ago, and Tiesto himself recently played a show in Brazil to promote the new Mission Impossible movie that was broadcast live over the internet. Here's hoping this trend continues and I can catch a glimpse of Ultra and or Electric Zoo.

I'm also very excited for the "In the Booth" series. Since I follow @tiesto religiously and have been privileged to see one of the biggest DJs in the world 3 times this year alone, I'm looking forward to finding out more about the behind-the-scenes world of Tiesto.
