Betatraxx, formerly known as Redlight, has hit the underground scene hard over the last 6 months. His style is distinctive and original, yet sounds as if it were the lovechild of Wolfgang Gartner and Glitch Mob (some very high praise, mind you). The comparison stems from his ability to formulate a complex melody, complete with multiple layers (many of which entail a bit of the mobster's glitch-hop sound), while staying committed to its full-circulation at a high sonic quality. I have literally yet to listen to a release that I have not been impressed with, as he constantly delivers solid originals and/or beautifully tweaked remixes that have his beta fingerprints all over them. Furthermore, word has it that this cat has added a live drummer to his set, Nick Gross (who apparently tears shit up) - taking a page out of the whole DC77 and Pretty Lights acts idea. I'm not going to lie, I'm a huge fan of the morphing of electronic dj sets paired with live instrumentation; it takes these performances from the monotony of repetitive sound and launches them to a previously unachievable level, riddled with a spontaneity and creative freedom that is rarely found in the electronic music scene (thank you Travis Barker & A-Trak - you fellas really left your mark on the industry). While, I've never had the pleasure of attending one of his shows, apparently Beta is a dance-floor slaying machine. Also, worthy of mention is that he is the first artist to be officially signed under the
GDD management label (congratulations to Gotta Dance Dirty for absolutely running shit; from a blog to a label...god damn people). Anyway, check this kid out and be on the look out for many more promising releases in the near future. Cheers
